studio and lighting basics

Understanding lighting is essential for making good photos. It is more important than the equipment you use. Get familiar with different types of studio lighting and how to use them. This three session class will go over the basics of lighting and how to use a photo studio. These ideas can be used out of the studio in everyday photography.

We will work with tungsten or hot lights, strobes with different diffusion devices like umbrellas, soft boxes and reflectors as well as other lighting sources. Other topics include lighting ratios, white balance and quality of light. This knowledge lends itself beyond the studio to working with natural light, incandescent lighting, portable flash units and different backgrounds.

The studio itself is like a blank canvas for you to create in. By changing the background and lighting we can creating many environments to work with. There is plenty of hands on experience in this class as we work with different set ups.
